My grandmothers weren’t really the “bubbe type,” but my mom always cooked and baked with me.

June 22nd, 2008 · No Comments · YouTube

I was watching the news the other night and saw the piece on “Feed Me Bubbe.” My grandmothers weren’t really the “bubbe type,” but my mom always cooked and baked with me. I think this is a great way to share some special recipes with both Jewish and non-Jewish watchers. I can’t wait to watch the other installments and see if any of the recipes mirror what what my mom and I do. Happy cooking!

Today would have been my Grandma Margie’s 115th birthday.

June 22nd, 2008 · No Comments · Emails

Dear Avrom: I loved the video of your Bubbe. Today would have been my Grandma Margie’s 115th birthday. Although she died when I was nine, I remember all the wonderful meals that came from her kitchen and the meaningful time we spent together. She was the greatest. I just recently recieved her recipe for Lebkuchen from my cousin and will make it with my grandson for Christmas this year. Thank you for reminding me and all of us how great our grandmas are. Keep up the good work. Judy G.

Thank you for your kind words. I have a ton of fun working with Bubbe. I am glad that we were able to help you recall the meaningful connection that you had with your Grandma. It is always nice to share recipes with loved ones. This just shows that food is a universal language no matter what your background is. Keep watching us, because more exciting episodes are ahead.

Thank you for your support,
Avrom

Bubbe you rock!

June 22nd, 2008 · No Comments · YouTube

I saw you on the news tonight too! Bubbe you rock! Now i’ll teach the children at my school some great jewish cooking! Can you do a vid on something easy and yummy to cook for small children please? 🙂

– alkamaholicbear80 (from Youtube on 8-2007)

Very good question. I will think of a recipe along the lines of your question. Possibly something for Purim. In the meantime, I think that the children would enjoy making matzah balls from a matzah ball mix and watching the video at the same time. Memories are so important and I think it would leave a good impression on the children, when they go home to their families and explain and show what they made, and that the video is accessible for all to view.

My mother was like your Bubbe, may she rest in peace, but she would never let me in kitchen when she worked.

June 22nd, 2008 · No Comments · YouTube

I like adding onion to the recipe, my bubba [another name for grandmother] I never had her here to enjoy, she died when I was three. My mother was like your Bubbe, may she rest in peace, but she would never let me in kitchen when she worked. Hence, I rebelled and went to McDonald’s. You are very lucky. G-d bless you all. Nice video.

Yer Bubbe is like my Babcia , and she makes the same food.

June 22nd, 2008 · No Comments · YouTube

Yer Bubbe is like my Babcia , and she makes the same food. Mine passed away a while ago, so seeing her and that food made me feel like she was in the kitchen again feeding me. You made me hungry and nearly made me cry.

– scurvytoon (from Youtube on 8-2007)

I appreciate your expressing your feelings. We have received many many messages similar to yours. I did not know my grandparents and I felt a void. And I hoped that I would be able to be a close warm Bubbe to my grandchildren.

Thanks much. She’s with me everyday I know . And with your reminder of the food I grew up with , I’ll be making my partner happy with rice kugle, Maybe an ep on that? My Babcia wasn’t big on passing on recipes , sh e just said things like watch and learn. Which of course I did.
